- What are students supposed to know and be able to do?
- How do we know when our students have learned?
- How do we respond when students have not learned the essential standard?
- How do we respond when students already know the content?
EHS Instructional Points of Emphasis:
- Collaborative lesson planning which incorporates research-based instructional strategies utilized in a relevant, innovative context.
- Culturally responsive teaching that makes meaningful connections between what students learn in school and their cultures, languages, and life experiences.
- Ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Display and reference essential learning objectives in the classroom which drive instruction and assessment.
- Pose deep probing questioning (HOW & WHY) with wait time and follow-up questioning which requires students to consider, articulate, and justify their understanding
- Provide a balance of teacher-centered and student-centered learning experiences from “bell to bell.”
- Daily summarizing by students and teacher (Never leave a learning experience without providing students with an opportunity to summarize their understanding)
- Differentiated instruction where all students have multiple opportunities and avenues to demonstrate mastery.
- Documented communication with parents in IC Contact Log to address performance and attendance.
- Immediate interventions and extensions provided for students who do and/or do not demonstrate successful performances in the areas of academics, attendance, and/or behavior.
